OUR PROJECT
Renaturalisation of the river valley Eau Blanche
In the river valley Eau Blanche, the National Park is increasing the number of projects to support the flora and fauna of the bocage landscape: creating nature reserves, digging ponds, planting hedges, restoring hay meadows, installing stork poles, etc. At the same time, a river re-meandering project is being carried out by the Walloon administration Direction des Cours d'eau non navigables, Natagora and the Parc naturel Viroin-Hermeton.

By 2041, high-quality natural spaces will be accessible to all.

DID YOU KNOW?
Rivers, naturally useful
In the last century, the course of the river Eau Blanche was straightened, increasing its flow and reducing the soil's infiltration capacity. As a result, groundwater levels are getting less replenished and certain areas are more prone to flooding. Moreover, some natural habitats and biodiversity have diminished. Today, we are correcting this past mistake by restoring the river's precious meanders.

La Prée Nature Reserve
The jewel of the bocage landscape of the Fagne, La Prée, covers more than 130 hectares of protected wetlands between the hills of Dailly and the bed of the river Eau Blanche. The reserve is managed by our partner Natagora and has been expanded by the National Park. The rare great crested newt, red-backed shrike and yellowhammer, among others, have made it their home.
